Viking has announced it has taken delivery of the company’s newest river ship in Egypt, the Viking Ptah. The delivery ceremony for the Ptah took place at Massara shipyard in Cairo, Egypt.

“We are delighted to welcome the Viking Ptah to our growing fleet on the Nile River,” said Leah Talactac, president and CEO of Viking.

“Egypt continues to inspire curious travelers from around the world, and with the addition of the Viking Ptah, we are pleased to offer even more guests the opportunity to explore this extraordinary destination in the comfort of a Viking vessel,” added Talactac.

“Purpose-built for the Nile, our elegant sister ships provide an unmatched way to experience Egypt’s rich history and cultural treasures.”

The company said in a press release that the new ship hosts 82 guests in 41 staterooms, and is built specifically to navigate the Nile River on Viking’s 12-day “Pharaohs & Pyramids” itinerary.

The Viking Ptah and her identical sister ships feature the Scandinavian design for which Viking is known, including a distinctive square bow and an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace.

Viking said that it remains focused on well-defined, long-term growth plans as part of a strategy to continue leading in experiential travel.

Based on Viking’s committed orderbook, the company expects to take delivery of 20 additional river ships by 2028, nine additional ocean ships by 2031 and two additional expedition ships by 2031.

With these orders, Viking will have 114 river ships in 2028 and 26 ocean and expedition ships in 2031.
