Transcend Cruises has introduced the first river cruise ship developed exclusively for the charter and group market, the Connect, following the ship’s official naming ceremony and inaugural sailing from Dordrecht to Zaandam, Netherlands.
“With the Connect, we are completely redefining river cruising for groups. Every detail of this ship has been purpose-built for meetings, incentives, conferences and exclusive events,” said Gregg Marston, CEO of Transcend Cruises.
“Our goal was to create a flexible, premium and sustainable platform that meets the needs of today’s event organizers while delivering experiences that simply cannot be replicated on land,” added Marston.
Media representatives, investors, industry partners and members of the MICE industry were in attendance to celebrate the naming ceremony and inaugural voyage on August 3, 2026, in Dordrecht.
The company said in a press release that the ship’s godmother is former Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Marja van Bijsterveldt.
Purpose-built for the MICE market, the Connect features five event spaces suitable for large conferences, smaller meetings, workshops and networking events.
It also features audiovisual technology, high-speed connectivity and digital branding capabilities that enable companies to showcase their brand throughout the journey.
The Connect was built by the Dutch Den Breejen Shipyard, and includes interiors designed by Tillberg Design of Sweden. United Waterways is responsible for the vessel’s operational management.
According to Transcend Cruises, the ship was developed using a circular design approach and incorporates the latest low-emission technology, including electric last-mile maneuvering, peak-power battery systems in place of conventional generators, and optimized fuel and water storage systems.
The vessel’s reduced draft also provides greater operational flexibility, including during periods of low water.
Onboard highlights include a flexible culinary experience suitable for fine dining, family-style service or regional culinary concepts, as well as a wellness and fitness area.
The company stated that by 2028, its fleet is expected to grow to four vessels. In the long term, the company plans to operate a fleet of up to 12 river cruise ships purpose-built for the charter market.
At the same time, Transcend Cruises continues to strengthen its presence in Europe and has focused on German-speaking markets with the appointment of Mauro Tramacere as the Europe CFO and Johannes Jungwirth as director of sales, Europe.
