The Silver Whisper recently completed its 25th year of service for Silversea, having been delivered on June 15, 2001.
Built at the T. Mariotti shipyard in Italy, the luxury vessel was designed as a sister ship to the 2000-built Silver Shadow.
At the time of their deliveries, the vessels had the highest space-to-passenger ratio of any cruise ship in the world.
The Whisper was named a few days after being delivered, during a special ceremony at the Port of Genoa, Italy.
Marzia Lefebvre D’Ovidio, wife of Silversea’s then chairman, Manfredi Lefebvre D’Ovidio, served as the vessel’s godmother.
As the fourth ship in the company’s fleet, the Whisper spent its inaugural season in Europe before expanding its operations to other parts of the world.
Extensively refurbished over the years, the ship underwent a major update in late 2018 as part of a $170-million fleet modernization program.
At the time, the 28,000-ton vessel introduced refreshed interiors, with updated public areas and enhanced guest suites.
In 2026, the Whisper is spending the summer in Alaska, offering a series of seven-night cruises between Seward and Vancouver.
The open-jaw itineraries are highlighted by visits to a range of destinations, including Valdez, Haines, Klawock and Sitka.
After its summer season in the region, the 392-passenger vessel is scheduled to embark on a two-part repositioning voyage to the South Pacific via Hawaii.
In early October, the ship will kick off a winter season in French Polynesia that includes seven- to 14-night cruises departing from Tahiti.
The itineraries also sail to the Marquesas, featuring visits to Bora Bora, Raiatea, Nuku Hiva and Moorea.
With a published schedule extending through April 2029, the ship is set to offer additional itineraries in Alaska and the South Pacific before kicking off Silversea’s 2029 World Cruise.
