Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum of the Seas had to delay the departure of its most recent cruise due to Typhoon Dolphin.

According to a statement sent to guests, the sailing was rescheduled to August 11, 2026, three days later than originally planned.

“We have been monitoring the progression of Typhoon Dolphin,” Royal Caribbean said, noting that the storm moved slowly towards Shanghai.

The company added that due to adverse weather conditions, storm impact and the government closure of the port of Shanghai, it was forced to extend the previous cruise of the Spectrum.

“As a result, our August 8, 2026, sailing has unfortunately been delayed,” Royal Caribbean added in its statement.

Sailing roundtrip from its homeport in Shanghai, the Spectrum of the Seas was originally scheduled to offer an eight-night cruise to Japan.

The voyage included visits to Nagoya and Tokyo, in addition to an overnight call to the port of Kobe and two days at sea.

After sailing from Shanghai three days later, the 2019-built ship is now offering a new itinerary that includes visits to Jeju in South Korea and Nagasaki in Japan.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused by this unexpected port closure,” Royal Caribbean continued, noting that guests had the option to either embark on the updated itinerary or cancel their booking.

For those who decided to proceed with the sailing, the company offered an onboard credit of up to $1,100 per double cabin, varying based on stateroom category.

Royal Caribbean noted that the credit can be used anywhere onboard and will be refunded to guests’ credit cards if unused by the end of the cruise.

As a gesture of goodwill, the company also provided passengers with a future cruise credit in the same amount as the onboard credit.

The company said that the voucher can be used toward any future sailing departing before August 15, 2027.

Royal Caribbean also noted that passengers will be compensated for up to $222 per person for incidentals and travel adjustment fees through a partnership with China Pacific Property Insurance Company.

Passengers who decided not to board the Spectrum of the Seas for the reduced sailing will receive a full refund of the amount paid for the cruise in the form of a future cruise credit.
