Ponant Explorations, along with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), has announced the group of experts joining the 2027 “Antarctica: Ocean (Re)Imagined with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution” voyage.

The 10-night expedition will bring together leading voices in glaciology, polar oceanography, climate policy and ocean communication alongside the ship’s experienced expedition team while sailing in Antarctica.

“What makes this voyage so compelling is the combination of Ponant Exploration’s experienced Captain and expedition team, who know how to bring guests into the heart of Antarctica, and four distinct perspectives from leading WHOI experts,” said Samuel Chamberlain, CEO, Ponant, Americas.

“Together, they offer guests a truly 360-degree view of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, bringing a level of depth and intellectual enrichment that goes well beyond the traditional cruise experience, allowing guests to participate in a dialogue with experts who are actively advancing our understanding of the continent and the forces shaping its future,” added Chamberlain.

The company said in a press release that the program features WHOI experts including glaciologist and planetary scientist Dr. Catherine Walker; polar oceanographer Dr. Ted Maksym; ocean and climate policy leader Dr. Kilaparti (Rama) Ramakrishna; and Emmy and Peabody Award-winning ocean communicator Richard Vevers.

Together, they will conduct research and lead daily lectures, discussions and interactive conversations that offer guests a front-row seat on the science shaping our understanding of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.

Complementing the expert program, the expedition team will lead Zodiac outings, shore landings and wildlife viewing opportunities.

The 10-night voyage departs December 7, 2027, sailing roundtrip from Ushuaia, Argentina, aboard Le Lyrial.

The experience also includes a one-night pre-voyage hotel stay in Buenos Aires on December 6, roundtrip group charter flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia, as well as roundtrip airport transfers on embarkation and disembarkation days.

Fares start at $15,060 for a Superior Stateroom, based on double occupancy.
