The Norwegian Getaway will significantly delay one of its upcoming departures from Miami to support the port’s sustainability initiatives.

In a statement sent to booked guests, Norwegian Cruise Line said that the itinerary adjustment is related to the commissioning of a shore power system.

The company noted that the change affects the “embarkation day experience” for the vessel’s August 24, 2026 cruise.

“As part of PortMiami’s continued efforts to enhance its sustainability initiatives, the Norwegian Getaway will participate in the commissioning of a shore power system,” Norwegian said.

The company explained that the technology allows ships to connect to local electrical grids while in port, reducing emissions and supporting a cleaner environment.

“To accommodate this work, the Norwegian Getaway will remain in Miami overnight before setting sail,” Norwegian added, noting that the vessel will now sail from the port at 3 AM on August 25, instead of the originally scheduled time of 4 PM on August 24, 2026.

“While the timing of your voyage has been adjusted, all scheduled ports of call remain unchanged and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the sun-soaked beaches, crystal-clear waters and island experiences that await in the Bahamas,” the company continued.

After departing from PortMiami, the ship’s four-night itinerary includes visits to Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay.

Norwegian explained that while the 2014-built vessel will remain docked for an extended time, passengers will not be allowed to disembark in Miami.

As part of the commissioning activities, only one gangway will be available for guest access during the day, the company added.

“Our team will be on hand throughout embarkation day to help ensure a smooth boarding experience,” Norwegian continued.

The company noted that passengers are still asked to arrive at the port during their assigned check-in times, which remain unchanged.

Backed by six cruise lines and Florida Power and Light, PortMiami’s plan to implement shore power at its cruise terminals was first announced in early 2021.
