Phoenix Reisen extended the deadline for an offer that allows guests to rebook river cruises affected by low water levels in Central Europe free of charge.

Initially announced for passengers scheduled to sail through mid-August, the offer is now valid through September 9, 2026.

According to a statement on the company’s website, passengers sailing on the Rhine, Moselle and Danube rivers can take advantage of the rebooking offer if their itineraries are affected by persistent low water levels.

Phoenix said that the option is a way of reassuring passengers, but it specifically excludes itineraries that sail to the Netherlands and Belgium onboard the Rhein Prinzessin.

The company noted that the current low water levels in Central European rivers are a consequence of the ongoing drought in the region.

“However, contrary to what is often portrayed in the media, not all rivers and sections of waterways are affected equally. Often, just a few centimeters can determine whether passage is possible,” Phoenix Reisen continued.

The company added that it “has decades of experience dealing with high and low water levels,” and that captains, shipping companies and partners work together to do everything in their power to ensure trips proceed as planned.

“The trips planned for the near future are being continuously reviewed, and we are in close contact with our partners regarding this matter.”

Phoenix Reisen added that passengers will be informed in advance of any necessary measures, which may include itinerary adjustments or ship changes.

The company also asked guests to refrain from making inquiries by phone or in writing at this time, adding that the current situation is changing daily and work is now focusing on sailings scheduled for the next two weeks.

“We will contact you as soon as your trip is affected by a change. Until then, you can assume that your trip will take place as planned.”
