Carnival Cruise Line marked a milestone with guests witnessing the solar eclipse during its first-ever solar eclipse cruise.
The 11-day Carnival Journeys voyage aboard the Carnival Legend departed Aug. 9 from Dover, England, taking guests to destinations in Spain, Portugal, Belgium and France.
The eclipse served as the sailing’s signature moment while the ship was at sea on Aug. 12, according to a company statement.
Equipped with special eclipse viewing glasses, guests watched the moon pass in front of the sun from the deck, positioned directly beneath the eclipse’s shadow for a view of the total solar eclipse.
Special eclipse programming was offered, while themed entertainment, beverage offerings and other activities continue throughout the voyage.
According to Carnival, the special sailing reflects the continued evolution of Carnival Journeys, its collection of longer, immersive itineraries designed to give guests more time to explore destinations and enjoy special experiences at sea.
Looking ahead, three solar eclipse cruises will be available in 2027:
- 16-day Carnival Journeys sailing aboard the Carnival Firenze, departing from Buenos Aires, Argentina on Feb. 2, positioned for the solar eclipse on Feb. 6, calling at Rio de Janeiro and Maceio in Brazil, Grenada, Martinique and St. Maarten.
- 10-day Mediterranean voyage aboard the Carnival Sunshine, departing Barcelona, Spain, on July 25, positioned for the Aug. 2 eclipse.
- 11-day Carnival Journeys sailing aboard the Carnival Miracle, departing Dover, England, on July 29, featuring a dedicated day at sea for eclipse viewing.
