Atlas Ocean Voyages has announced seven new pre-voyage land experience programs designed to complement its Kenya and South Africa itineraries aboard the Atlas Adventurer during its spring 2029 season.
This will be the inaugural season for the 400-guest luxury expedition sailing ship joining Atlas’ fleet in November 2028.
The experiences are offered in conjunction with four voyages:
- 14-night voyage from Mombasa to Cape Town (March 24, 2029),
- 14-night voyage from Cape Town to Mombasa (April 7, 2029),
- 45-night Extraordinary Expedition from Cape Town to Athens (April 7, 2029)
- 10-night voyage from Mombasa to Mahé (April 21, 2029)
“An expedition doesn’t have to begin upon arrival at the yacht,” said James A. Rodriguez, president and chief executive officer of Atlas Ocean Voyages. “These new safari experiences give our guests the chance to enhance their journey with a truly immersive land excursion encountering Africa’s extraordinary wildlife and landscapes, before they ever set foot aboard Atlas Adventurer.”
Three land experiences are offered from Mombasa, Kenya:
- Amboseli & Tsavo East Safari (three nights – from $3,679)
The shortest land experience pairs two nights at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge with a night at Ashnil Aruba Lodge in Tsavo East National Park in Kenya.
Guests track big-tusked elephants beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, explore Amboseli’s marshes and dried lake beds by open 4×4, and venture into Tsavo East’s red-earth wilderness before transferring to Mombasa to join the ship.
- The A&K Sanctuary Experience (five nights – from $12,509)
This pre-voyage land program begins with an overnight at Nairobi’s JW Marriott before continuing to the exclusive Sanctuary Kitirua Lodge, a private-conservancy retreat bordering Amboseli National Park with views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The program continues to Sanctuary Olonana for twice-daily game drives before going back to Mombasa for embarkation.
- Luxury Signature Safari (seven nights – from $26,969)
The most exclusive of the Kenya excursions, this program crosses three private reserves: Sanctuary Kitirua in Amboseli, &Beyond Suyian Lodge in Laikipia, and The Ritz-Carlton’s safari camp on the Sand River in the Masai Mara.
Guests enjoy 4×4 vehicles and a dedicated resident tour director before going back to Mombasa to board the Atlas Adventurer.
There are also four Cape Town excursions showcasing southern Africa’s landscapes:
- Cape Winelands Discovery (three nights – from $3,429)
Based at the boutique Le Quartier Français in the heart of Franschhoek, this program pairs a guided Winelands tour of Paarl and Stellenbosch, with tastings at Nederburg, Fairview and Tokara, with a signature Wine Tram experience through Franschhoek’s valley.
The program concludes with a scenic ascent of Table Mountain by cable car before a private transfer to the Cape Town cruise terminal.
- Kruger Safari & Lion Sands Game Reserve (three nights – from $8,389)
Following an overnight in Johannesburg, guests fly to Skukuza and continue to Lion Sands Narina Lodge, a retreat of stilted suites with private plunge pools overlooking the Sabie River.
Spanning both Sabi Sand and Kruger National Park, Lion Sands is known for leopard sightings and year-round game viewing. A return flight takes guests to Cape Town for embarkation.
- Northern Kruger Safari – Ngala Safari Lodge (four nights – from $8,469)
This journey continues to &Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge, set within a private concession inside Kruger National Park.
Guests enjoy twice-daily game drives, guided nature walks and optional rhino conservation experiences before returning to Cape Town to join the ship.
- Botswana Safari – Okavango Delta & Chobe (six nights – from $17,379)
This journey travels from Johannesburg into Botswana, beginning at Chief’s Camp on Chief’s Island in the Okavango Delta’s Moremi Game Reserve.
Guests continue to Chobe Chilwero, home to the world’s largest remaining population of African elephants, before a final overnight at the historic Victoria Falls Hotel and a guided tour of the falls, ahead of a flight back to Cape Town for embarkation.
