AmaWaterways recently addressed the historically low water levels on portions of the Danube and Rhine Rivers.
In a social media update to its guests, the company said concerns about upcoming sailings in the region are understandable.
“Your vacation is something you’ve looked forward to for months, sometimes even years, and it’s natural to have questions when changing river conditions make headlines,” the company said.
“Behind every cruise, there is an entire team working tirelessly on your behalf, including our executive leadership team, who meet regularly with a shared commitment to preserving our guests’ vacations whenever possible,” AmaWaterways added.
The company noted it has nearly 25 years of experience in river cruising and has dealt with changing water levels before.
“Rather than canceling cruises whenever possible, our teams work together to adjust itineraries, arrange alternative transportation and develop creative solutions that keep journeys moving,” it continued.
AmaWaterways said that in some cases it will be necessary to create entirely new itineraries, adding that the alternative sailings are “just as enriching as the original ones.”
Guests may also need to switch ships around low-water areas so sailings can continue with minimal disruption.
“At the same time, we have implemented a comprehensive communications plan, including email updates, dedicated web pages with real-time information, enhanced app communications and expanded contact center resources, allowing us to answer questions and proactively reach out when needed,” the operator added.
AmaWaterways said every cruise is unique, so decisions are being tailored to each situation.
“Because river conditions and weather can change rapidly, some decisions must be made closer to departure, allowing us to respond based on the most current information available,” the company explained.
While its goal is to continue offering guests the experience they signed up for, AmaWaterways said the challenging situation extends beyond travel.
“The communities that line these beautiful rivers are experiencing the effects of low water levels as well, and our thoughts are with the local residents, businesses and partners who call these waterways home,” the company said.
