A typhoon has caused the cancellation of a cruise that was set to take place onboard the Spectrum of the Seas starting on July 11, 2026.
According to a statement issued by Royal Caribbean, the Far East sailing cannot go ahead due to impact related to the storm.
Sailing from its homeport in Shanghai, China, the vessel was scheduled to offer a four-night cruise to Incheon, South Korea.
“We have been monitoring the progression of Typhoon Bavi as it slowly moves toward Shanghai,” Royal Caribbean said in the letter sent to booked guests.
“Due to the development of the storm and its impact, and the government closure of the Port of Shanghai Baoshan, the previous Spectrum of the Seas sailing has been delayed returning to port,” the company continued.
“We are truly sorry for the impact this has on your vacation plans,” Royal Caribbean added, noting that it is issuing a full refund for affected guests.
The company said that all portions of the cruise fare will be returned to the original form of payment, including pre-paid amenities and airfare booked through Royal Caribbean.
Guests will also be entitled to up to $200 per person reimbursement for non-refundable, pre-purchased domestic transportation change fees.
Passengers travelling internationally will have up to $400 per person reimbursement, the company added, noting that expenses covered include fees for changing hotel, flight, train tickets or rental cars reservations.
Additionally, as a gesture of goodwill, Royal Caribbean is offering affected guests a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) of $500 per stateroom.
With amounts varying by cabin category, the FCC can be used for any of the company’s sailings scheduled to depart through July 11, 2027.
“We are sorry for the impact that the storm and governmental port closure had on your planned time with us,” the company added.
