Princess Cruises Adjusts Sun Itinerary Due to Port Congestion

Sun Princess

Princess Cruises is adjusting one of the Sun Princess’s summer season itineraries due to port congestion, the company revealed in a notice sent to guests.

According to the statement, the 4,300-passenger ship will replace a visit to Greece with a new call in Italy for its August 22, 2026, departure.

“Please be advised that due to cruise ship congestion, the Sun Princess will no longer visit Corfu on August 26 and will instead call to Taranto on the same date,” the company said.

Princess explained that guests with company-purchased shore excursions for the cancelled visit to Corfu will have refunds issued to their original forms of payment.

Updated shore excursion information will soon be available on the company’s official channels, the statement added.

Sailing from Piraeus to Barcelona, the Sun Princess was scheduled to visit Corfu as part of a seven-night cruise that sails between the Eastern and Western Mediterranean.

The itinerary features visits to additional ports in Italy and Greece, including Santorini in the Cyclades and Messina in Sicily.

Before arriving at its Spanish homeport, the LNG-powered vessel is also scheduled to visit the port of Bar in Montenegro.

The cruise is part of the Sun Princess’ summer season in Europe and can be combined with other itineraries for up to 21-night voyages in the region.

Cruise Industry News research shows that the Port of Corfu is scheduled to welcome five cruise ships on August 26, 2026.

Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises will have two ships each visiting the destination that day, including the MSC Fantasia, the MSC Armonia, the Norwegian Gem and the Norwegian Pearl.

TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 4 and the Viking Star are also scheduled to call the Greek island on the same day.

According to the latest edition of the Global Cruise Ship Index, the five ships could bring over 11,000 passengers to Corfu.
