Ponant Explorations has unveiled a new Caribbean itinerary for 2028, “Jewels of the Northern Caribbean,” with four departures sailing from La Romana in the Dominican Republic to Nassau in the Bahamas via the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Marking a first for the company, the new voyage introduces guests to a lesser-explored side of the Caribbean through an immersive expedition-style experience.
Developed by the company’s R&D Expedition Experience Director, José Sarica, the itinerary is the result of field scouting across the northern Caribbean to uncover hidden gems, Ponant said in a statement.
Working closely with local communities and regional partners, the expedition team curated a voyage that reflects Ponant’s approach to exploration, including securing exclusive access to Monte Cristi in the Dominican Republic — the first brand to call at the destination.
Jewels of the Northern Caribbean
Operating in January and February 2028, “Jewels of the Northern Caribbean” will visit three countries in a single voyage aboard Le Champlain, to showcase the distinct character, heritage, and landscapes of each destination.
Highlights of the eight-day/ itinerary include the following:
- Discovering a range of natural environments, including beaches, sandbanks, mangroves, coral reefs, caves and botanical gardens
- Exploring the region’s rich history, from Indigenous cultures and colonial heritage to the golden age of piracy
- An exclusive stop in Monte Cristi, a town in the Dominican Republic’s protected national park
- Exploring the world’s third-largest barrier reef in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and
- Visiting Staniel Cay in the Bahamas, with the opportunity to swim with the island’s wild pigs and experience its pirate history.
Sailings will be departing on January 12, 19 and 26, as well as February 2, 2028. Pricing starts at $6,060 per person.
