The Norwegian Jewel recently became the last cruise ship to dock at the Union Pier Cruise Terminal in Downtown Charleston.
According to the South Carolina Daily Gazette, the Norwegian Cruise Line vessel visited the facility on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
Arriving with transit passengers, the ship remained docked at the Port of Charleston for eight hours after arriving at 11 AM.
With the Union Pier sold to developers in 2024, the cruise terminal will close its doors to make room for a project that will feature a mix of shops, residences and public space.
Cruise ships arriving in Charleston will now dock at an alternative commercial dock at the Columbus Street Terminal.
Located in an industrial area near Union Pier, the facility is scheduled to host a series of transit calls between 2026 and 2027.
The first ship to dock at the new berth will be the Oceania Vista, which is scheduled call ins Charleston on July 4, 2026.
Other vessels set to visit South Carolina include Hapag-Lloyd’s Europa 2 and the Viking Octantis, as well as the Scenic Eclipse.
Sailing from Philadelphia, the Norwegian Jewel arrived at the port as part of a seven-night cruise to South Carolina and Bermuda.
In addition to Charleston, the itinerary also included an overnight visit to the Royal Naval Dockyard in King’s Wharf.
The Union Pier had served as a homeport for Carnival Cruise Line for nearly 15 years, with ships sailing to destinations in the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
The company wrapped up its operations in Charleston in late 2024, with the Carnival Sunshine offering a New Year’s cruise to the Bahamas.
Before concluding its service from South Carolina in early 2025, the 2,964-guest ship visited Nassau and Half Moon Cay.
