Global Ports Holding (GPH) has appointed Emilio Vázquez Villanueva as general manager of Acapulco Cruise Port, Mexico. 

He will work with cruise lines, government authorities and local stakeholders to support the development of Acapulco as a leading cruise destination on Mexican Riviera itineraries, GPH said in a press release.

“His extensive experience in port operations, tourism and stakeholder engagement, together with his deep understanding of Acapulco, make him exceptionally well positioned to lead our newest port. We look forward to working together as we continue investing in Acapulco’s future and strengthening its position as one of the Pacific region’s premier cruise destinations.” 

Vázquez Villanueva brings experience across the private and public sectors, with a background in international trade, economic development, logistics, tourism and port management.  

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Fiscal Planning and International Taxation. 

He joined the Administration of the National Port System (ASIPONA) in Acapulco as Commercial Manager in 2023, playing a key role in advancing the Port’s development. 

Vázquez Villanuev subsequently served as Subsecretary of Tourism Promotion for the State Government’s Ministry of Tourism. 

GPH noted that the appointment marks an important milestone following the recent acquisition of the 24-year concession to operate and develop Acapulco Cruise Port.
