The AIDAmar underwent a short drydock in the Netherlands over the weekend as part of AIDA Cruises’ “shipyard experience” cruise.

The unique sailing allowed guests to remain onboard as the 2012-built vessel underwent inspections and technical maintenance in Rotterdam.

Sailing roundtrip from the German port of Warnemunde, the AIDAmar spent nearly 24 hours at the shipyard, starting on July 5, 2026.

In addition to the visit to the facility, the five-night itinerary also includes two days of cruising in the North Sea.

As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, AIDA said that the cruise allowed guests to sail to “the vibrant, industrial heart of Europe’s largest seaport” in Rotterdam.

The company added that, instead of visiting “typical tourist terminals,” passengers were offered a rare opportunity to enjoy a”unique atmosphere onboard as the ship undergoes scheduled maintenance.

AIDA noted that the cruise was ideal for seafarer enthusiasts and AIDA fans, offering an “authentic maritime experience.”

The company offered passengers the opportunity to combine the short drydock cruise with other sailings for up to ten-night cruises in the region.

The cruises were also aimed at soccer fans, with theme activities inspired by the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is taking place in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Following its drydock cruise, the AIDAmar is scheduled to offer a series of destinations in the Baltic and Scandinavia.

Sailing roundtrip from Warnemunde, the ship’s five- to 12-night itineraries are highlighted by stops in Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Norway and more.

The AIDAmar is also set to return to drydock later this year as part of the AIDA Evolution fleet modernization program.

Similar to other ships in the company’s Sphinx class, the 2,174-passenger ship will undergo a major refurbishment that includes the addition of new dining and entertainment venues, as well as updates to staterooms and public areas.
