The Adora Magic City premiered its “Shanhaijing Fantasy Journey” children’s stage show on July 5 at the ship’s Metropolitan Theater.

According to Adora’s public statements, the premiere was attended by families and the media, and the theater reached full capacity.

The premiere marked the start of a summer season that will run through mid-August in Shanghai before the ship sails to Shenzhen Shekou for a five-week deployment.

The show is co-produced by Adora Cruises, the China Arts and Welfare Institute, and the China International Culture Group. The production focuses on the classic of ancient Chinese mythology, “Shanhaijing” (Classic of Mountains and Seas), and is tailored for family audiences.

The “Shanhaijing Fantasy Journey” summer thematic season runs from July 3 to August 13 while the ship is homeported in Shanghai. The program highlights include sea-day garden parades, interactive “Little Navigator” children’s activities and the daily stage show.

The season then moves with the ship to Shenzhen Shekou Cruise Homeport from August 13 to September 16, where the Adora Magic City.

A highlight of the Shenzhen deployment is a nine-day Southeast Asia sailing on August 27, calling at Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia), Brunei and Nha Trang (Vietnam).

This sailing offers a longer, multi-country Southeast Asia option from a southern Chinese homeport, and this is the first time a domestically built large cruise ship has offered a systematic children’s intellectual property (IP) program as a dedicated onboard product.

The “Shanhaijing” show joins a growing trend among China-based cruise lines to differentiate their onboard experience through locally relevant cultural content, particularly for families.

The Adora Magic City is scheduled to return to Shanghai after the Shenzhen deployment.
