Viking’s the Yidun departed Shanghai on June 5 on a 60-day sold-out repositioning voyage to Barcelona, marking the line’s first Mandarin-language transcontinental itinerary, according to a statement.
The ship reached her first stop in the voyage which was Hong Kong followed by Singapore on June 12 (pictured).
The ship last visited Singapore in January this year while on a 32-day voyage from Yokohama to Southeast Asia.
The 930-guest ship is sailing the “Afro-Euro-Asian Discovery Journey,” calling at 27 destinations across 16 countries.
The voyage includes stops in Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Klang, Penang and Langkawi in Malaysia, Phuket, Sri Lanka, the Seychelles, the Maldives and Namibia before transiting around the Cape of Good Hope and calling in Morocco ahead of its arrival in Barcelona in early August.
The Yidun will then offer a full Mandarin-language Mediterranean season from fall 2026 through spring 2027, targeting the Greater China and Southeast Asia fly-cruise markets, the company said.
Almost all crew members on the ship are Chinese or Mandarin-speaking, and shore excursions, which are included in the cruise fare, are conducted in Mandarin.
Airport transfers on embarkation and disembarkation days, Wi-Fi and gratuities are also included in the fare.
The ship operates eight dining venues, including a main dining room featuring a daily dim sum trolley, the Wintergarden for afternoon tea, Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant and a Norwegian deli. Private dining is available at The Chef’s Table.
The Yidun sails under the Norwegian flag and does not carry a casino or triple and quad cabins.
Children under eight years old are not permitted on board, according to the company.
