Mercedes-Maybach has selected the Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven shipyard to build its 72-guest Beyond Horizons superyacht, the centerpiece of its Maybach Ocean Club concept.

The concept is conceived as an invitation-only private members’ club centered around a superyacht, which is planned to be delivered in 2030.

A preliminary agreement for this next phase of the project development was signed at the Mercedes-Benz Centre of Excellence, Lloyd Werft said in a press release.

“Our client is pursuing an exceptional and forward-looking approach to the future of yachting with this community concept. We see significant potential in it for new market segments and user groups,” said Thorsten Rönner, shareholder and managing director of Lloyd Werft.

“For Lloyd Werft, the focus is on the challenging task of turning this vision into reality through the highest standards of engineering and shipbuilding expertise. The cooperation represents a step into new territory for all partners and demonstrates the potential that lies in combining bold ideas with maritime expertise.”

According to Rönner, Lloyd Werft is ideally positioned for the job thanks to its shareholder structure, which comprises Lürssen, with its decades of experience in building what he calls sophisticated yachts.

As reported by Cruise Industry News in 2025, the yacht concept was developed in collaboration with Splendid Sea, the German yacht designer Dölker + Voges Design and Mercedes-Benz Design.

At the time, Splendid Sea and Mercedes were looking for 300 co-owners who would be entitled to spend four weeks onboard per year.

The vessel will be approximately 155 meters long and able to accommodate up to 72 members and guests in 30 Residential Suites.

Each will boast approximately 74 square meters of living space, private balconies and unobstructed sea views.

Six additional guest cabins will be available for family members and friends of the members, according to the press release.

The planned amenities include:

• Panoramic lounges
• Dining and fine-dining concepts
• Wellness and spa facilities
• A beach club with direct access to the water
• A split-level infinity pool and expansive sun decks
• Cultural and entertainment programs featuring live music and art exhibitions
• A dedicated support vessel for helicopters, tenders, water sports equipment, and logistical support.
