Royal Caribbean unveiled six artists whose work will be featured on its upcoming ship, the Legend of the Seas, debuting in Europe in July 2026.
Emerging artists from across the Caribbean and Central America will debut original, destination-inspired artwork throughout the ship, as part of the cruise line’s Artist Discovery Program.
“Since its introduction on Icon of the Seas, the Artist Discovery Program has continued to evolve how we connect guests with the places we visit by championing up-and-coming artists and giving them a global stage to showcase their work,” said Jay Schneider, chief product innovation officer, Royal Caribbean.
“With Legend of the Seas we’ve expanded our call for talent beyond the Caribbean to include Mexico and Central America, bringing together an even broader range of voices and perspectives. Featuring artists onboard our ships and across our destinations like Royal Beach Club Paradise Island creates a seamless ship-to-shore experience, where the art brings each destination to life.”
The cruise line said it received 250 artist applications for the Legend, with the top six receiving grants to create art pieces inspired by their home countries.
The artwork will be showcased in six locations around the ship which Royal Caribbean describes as highly visible:
- a large-scale mural and stainless-steel sculpture created by Giovanni Abath from Curacao in the neighborhood with restaurants, bars and entertainment venues
- a mosaic sculpture by Vanessa Dalla Costa from Trinidad and Tobago at the Suite Sundeck
- mural by Porschia Denning from U.S. Virgin Islands at the Suite Sundeck Lobby
- mural by Rafeal Vega Feliciano from Puerto Rico at the boarding area on deck 2
- a large-scale mural by Rodrigo Macias Maldonado from Mexico at the Royal Promenade
- a large-scale mural by Alexander Lopez Ryliouk from Costa Rica at the embarkation area.
The Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in Nassau, The Bahamas, also features 11 local Bahamian artists across 25 locations at the beach club, the cruise line added.
Following nearly two years of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, the Legend of the Seas was delivered to Royal Caribbean last week.
The ship will operate seven-night Western Mediterranean sailings from Barcelona, Spain, and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, this summer, after which it will sail to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and offer Caribbean itineraries.
