Hurtigruten Appoints Chris Barker as Key Account Manager

Chris Barker, key account manager, Hurtigruten

Hurtigruten has announced the appointment of Chris Barker as key account manager to further strengthen the company’s commitment to its UK and emerging market travel trade partners.

Joining the company on June 1, Barker brings experience from across the travel industry.

“Joining Hurtigruten is a really exciting opportunity for me because it’s a brand with such a distinctive heritage, a clear sense of purpose, and a strong vision for the future,” said Barker.

“What especially resonated with me is how closely the company’s values align with my own, particularly its emphasis on care for guests, for colleagues, for local communities and for the environment. It’s a brand with a strong story and passionate people behind it, and I’m looking forward to being part of that journey,” Barker added.

“It’s clear to see that Barker brings a breadth of travel industry experience to this role,” said Matt Stuart, sales director, UK and emerging markets at Hurtigruten.

“As we continue to strengthen our partnerships with agents and tour operators, his experience and enthusiasm will be a real asset. Norway remains a highly sought-after destination, and it’s essential that we continue to work closely with our trade partners to showcase the unique experiences that set Hurtigruten apart,” added Stuart.

“His appointment reinforces our commitment to these markets as we look ahead to continued growth.”

Hurtigruten said in a statement that, most recently, Barker spent two and a half years with Celebrity Cruises, first as a regional sales manager and later as a field sales manager, before becoming a self-employed professional travel expert with Designer Travel.

In his new role, Barker will work with the Hurtigruten sales team to:

  • Support trade partners
  • Grow key accounts
  • Enhance agent engagement, and
  • Develop new opportunities across both regions.
