Fincantieri and Viking have celebrated the delivery of the Viking Mira at the Ancona shipyard.
The ceremony was attended by Jeff Dash, executive vice president and head of business development at Viking, as well as Giorgio Gomiero, senior vice president of operations at Fincantieri and Gilberto Tobaldi, director of the Ancona Shipyard.
With a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons, the Viking Mira has 499 cabins and can accommodate up to 998 passengers, Fincantieri said in a press release.
The newbuild, which will be used on itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, belongs to the segment of small cruise ships and is part of Viking’s fleet, all built by Fincantieri.
According to the press release, the collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking began in 2012 and continues within the framework of a solid partnership.
The total portfolio across the two groups now stands at 26.
Fincantieri added that last March, a new order was announced for the construction of two expedition cruise ships, with delivery scheduled for 2030 and 2031, as well as an option for two additional ocean-going units with delivery estimated in 2034.
The company said this marks a new phase in the collaboration between the two groups.
The Ancona shipyard is one of the group’s main production hubs.
In recent years, the site has been the subject of an articulated development program aimed at strengthening its competitiveness, through infrastructural, technological and logistical interventions supported jointly by the company and the public port system.
