Port Canaveral CEO Murray Joins Maritime Hall of Fame

Captain John W. Murray, CEO of the Canaveral Port Authority, has been inducted into the International Maritime Hall of Fame (IMHOF).

The ceremony was hosted by the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey (MAPONY/NJ) at Chelsea Piers in New York City, according to a statement.

“I’m deeply honored to be inducted into the International Maritime Hall of Fame alongside so many respected leaders in our industry,” said Murray.

“The maritime industry has provided me with extraordinary opportunities over the past five decades and I’m grateful to the many colleagues, mentors and co-workers who have helped shape my journey along the way.”

Murray’s maritime career spans 50 years, 10 of which he spent at Port Canaveral.

Under his helm, the Port’s operating revenues reached a record $218 million in 2025, the statement reads.

After graduating from the Maine Maritime Academy in 1979, Murray started his career at Lykes Bros. Steamship Company, becoming SVP, operations. After that, was president and CEO of Hapag-Lloyd USA.

He is a member of the National Cargo Bureau and the American Bureau of Shipping, among other organizations.
