Oceanwide Expeditions confirmed on Tuesday afternoon it is arranging the medical evacuation of two passengers requiring urgent care and another guest associated with the passenger who passed away on May 2.
Two specialized aircraft are en route to Cape Verde and passengers will be transferred for onward medical evacuation to the Netherlands.
The company said no exact timeline is available at this stage.
“The medical evacuation of two individuals currently requiring urgent medical care, and the individual associated with the guest who passed away on 2 May, will occur using two specialized aircraft that are en route to Cape Verde,” Oceanwide Expeditions said in a written statement.
“From here, the patients are to be medically evacuated to the Netherlands.”
Once the three individuals have been transferred from the vessel, the Hondius will begin repositioning toward the Canary Islands, either Gran Canaria or Tenerife, a transit the company estimates will take approximately three days.
Oceanwide noted that discussions with relevant authorities are ongoing and that additional details will be shared when concrete plans are available.
The company said it is limiting external communications to written updates to ensure accuracy and consistency of information.
