The Hondius arrived safely in Rotterdam on May 18 and has begun an extended cleaning and disinfection process, according to Oceanwide Expeditions.
The vessel docked at 11:00 local time with no symptomatic individuals onboard.
Twenty crew members and two medical staff from the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment disembarked and are now housed in a specialized quarantine facility.
Five crew members remain onboard and will disembark at a later stage in coordination with cleaning and quarantine protocols.
Oceanwide Expeditions has selected EWS Group to perform the cleaning and disinfection. The company has extensive experience in ship disinfection, including during the pandemic.
The cleaning process takes three to four days, the company said.
Following the completed cleaning and disinfection, the vessel will then be safe again for operations, EWS Group has confirmed.
Oceanwide Expeditions has cancelled two voyages to allow for the cleaning process to be completed. The affected sailings are a May 29-June 5 departure and a June 5-13 departure.
All affected guests and partners have been informed directly, including rebooking options and additional details, the company said.
All voyages from June 13 onward will proceed as scheduled.
The Hondius will resume full operations on June 13, departing from Longyearbyen, Svalbard.
