The Netherland’s EST-Floattech delivered the battery pack for the Amadeus Aurea, the second hybrid ship in the fleet of Amadeus River Cruises.
Built at the TeamCo Shipyard in Heusden, the vessel entered service in April 2026, the Dutch firm said in a press release.
The company’s Octopus Series High Energy battery system with a 520-kWh capacity was added to the ship’s hybrid diesel-electric propulsion configuration.
“With the Octopus Series battery system, we enable inland cruise vessels such as Amadeus Aurea to manage energy use more intelligently” said Walter van der Pennen, CCO at EST-Floattech.
“We are proud to contribute to a vessel that demonstrates how performance, passenger comfort and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.”
The battery system is designed to handle and supply peak when the vessel is sailing, reducing the need to start up additional generators.
EST-Floattech explained that this results in lower fuel consumption, reduced emissions and quieter operation, which it sees as an advantage for sailing in rural areas, often having more strict emission regulations.
The battery system is also a part of the vessel’s broader energy concept, which also includes high-efficiency engines with exhaust gas after-treatment and a heat recovery system that reuses the heat produced by the generators.
Werkina Werkendam handled the electrical installation and system integration onboard.
