Norwegian Cruise Line is informing guests set to board the Norwegian Jewel in Philadelphia about a delay in the construction of the new cruise terminal.
As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, the new PhilaPort Cruise Terminal won’t be ready for the ship’s first sailing from the port, which is scheduled for April 16, 2026.
“We’re excited to return to Philadelphia and restart cruising from the destination for the first time in many years. It’s a milestone we’re incredibly proud of and are looking forward to opening up cruising to the broader mid-Atlantic region,” Norwegian stated.
“As we partner closely with PhilaPort to prepare the new facility, progress on the permanent terminal has taken longer than anticipated due to adverse weather conditions that impacted the area this winter,” the company continued.
Norwegian added that it is making every effort to ensure the “modified check-in experience is as efficient as possible.”
“For our first sailings, the check-in process will be facilitated at a nearby facility supported by thoughtful operational plans designed to keep your day flowing from arrival to boarding,” the company said.
Check-in will take place at the Clarion Hotel Philadelphia International Airport, where parking will also be available for guests.
Luggage drop-off will take place just outside the hotel entrance, while check-in will be carried out at the property’s ballroom.
To ensure what the company called a smooth and well-paced experience for everyone, Norwegian asked guests to arrive during their selected check-in timeslot.
After check-in, complimentary shuttles will transport embarking guests from the hotel to the pier and the Norwegian Jewel.
Norwegian noted that passengers cannot make their own way to the port and will not be able to complete check-in at the ship.
On disembarkation, guests with NCL transfers will disembark at the pier and be transported directly to the airport.
All other guests will be shuttled back to the Clarion Hotel to collect their vehicles or arrange onward transportation.
The Norwegian Jewel is scheduled to offer a series of seven- to nine-night cruises to Bermuda and Canada departing from Philadelphia through mid-October 2026.
Norwegian will later return to the PhilaPort Cruise Terminal with the Norwegian Pearl, which will offer a winter season to a range of destinations from the port.
