The Port of Los Angeles and Princess Cruises celebrated the maiden arrival of the company’s newest vessel, the Star Princess, to the LA Waterfront.

According to a press release, the Sphere-class ship made its inaugural visit to San Pedro on April 29, 2026.

After spending the upcoming summer season in Alaska, the LNG-powered vessel is scheduled to return to the port soon, offering a series of cruises departing from Los Angeles over the next 18 months.

“Princess Cruises has been an important and invaluable partner to the Port of Los Angeles for more than 60 years,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka.

“For Princess to add yet another cruise ship sailing from our LA Waterfront is terrific news and a notable milestone in our decades-long partnership,” he added.

“Bringing the Star Princess to Los Angeles for her West Coast debut is a proud moment for Princess Cruises,” said Marie Lee, Princess Cruises Chief Marketing Officer.

“Los Angeles has always held a special place in our history; our very first cruise sailed from the Port of Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera in 1965. As a leader in West Coast cruising, we’re honored to continue that legacy with a ship that represents the next evolution of our guest experience while expanding access to sought-after itineraries from Alaska, Mexico, the California Coast and Hawaii.”

According to the Port of Los Angeles, Princess has been the city’s hometown cruise line for more than six decades.

The company is said to have had more frequent sailings out of the Los Angeles Cruise Terminal over the last decade than any other cruise line, with nearly 800 ship visits to the port since 2015.

The Star Princess is scheduled to return to Los Angeles in October to kick off a 16-day Panama Canal cruise.

Following a winter season in the Caribbean, the vessel returns to California in April 2027 for two cruises to the Mexican Riviera and the Pacific Coast departing from LA.

The Star Princess is then scheduled to return to the port in October 2027 for another 16-day Panama Canal cruise.

In addition to the new vessel, the Discovery Princess, Emerald Princess and Crown Princess are scheduled to sail from Los Angeles in the near future. The vessels offer itineraries to Mexico, the California Coast and Hawaii.

The port said that it set a new record for cruises departing from the LA Waterfront in 2025, with 241 calls and 1.6 million passengers, which generated an estimated $300 million for the local economy.

Every cruise ship call is said to generate an estimated $1.3 million in local revenue within a two-mile radius of the port.
