Phoenix Reisen’s Amadea Meets Her Japanese Sisters

  • March 18, 2026
Docked in Kobe

Phoenix Reisen’s Amadea has met up with the Asuka II and II in Kobe.

The Amadea was the original Asuka, built in 1991 and was acquired by the German cruise and tour operator in 2006.

She was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at its shipyard in Nagasaki.

The Amadea is currently on a 146-day world cruise and has been sailing in Japanese waters since March 7.

Cruising along the Japanese islands, the Phoenix ship is currently making her way to Tokyo and Hiroshima. Other Japanese ports of call include Shimizu, Kochi City, Kitakyushu, Nagasaki and Okinawa.

“We have a friendly long-term relationship with the Japanese cruise line, their executives and officers, and the port of Kobe,” Michael Schulze, director of cruise at Phoenix Reisen, told Cruise Industry News.

He also noted that the world cruise segment from Tokyo to Hong Kong was fully booked.

Even today, according to Phoenix Reisen, the Japan-built ship continues to delight passengers with Japanese-inspired details on board that reflect the ship’s original heritage.

After visiting Japan, the Amadea will continue her world cruise, which is scheduled to conclude in Las Palmas in the Canary Islands on May 16.
