Carnival Cruise Line ships had to delay departures on Sunday from their homeports due to IT issues that resulted in slower debarkation and embarkation processes.

In a statement published on its website, the company explained that the problem was also affecting other tech tools.

“Carnival is experiencing some IT issues that occurred during planned maintenance, resulting in the delay of debarkation and embarkation of guests, as well as slowing down some other technology tools,” Carnival explained.

“Navigation and safety systems are working. We appreciate our guests’ patience and encourage embarking guests to watch their emails, text and phone call messages for updates,” the company added.

According to AIS data, several ships faced significant delays, including the Carnival Celebration, which only left PortMiami after midnight.

Initially scheduled to depart at 3:30 PM, the 2022-built vessel was only able to kick off its seven-night cruise to the Caribbean and the Bahamas after 1:00 AM.

The sailing includes visits to Grand Turk, Amber Cove and Nassau, as well as the private destination of Celebration Key. It’s unclear if the delay will lead to itinerary adjustments.

AIS data shows that other ships, including the Carnival Venezia, the Carnival Spirit and the Carnival Pride, also started their cruises after midnight.

Multiple guest reports indicate that onboard systems may also be facing issues, with the company’s HUB app being affected.

As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, an IT issue delayed the departure of the Carnival Firenze by over 21 hours in December.

In related news, the Carnival Sunshine had to delay its return to its homeport in Norfolk due to adverse weather conditions in the North Atlantic.

Initially scheduled to dock at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, the ship postponed its arrival to Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026.
