Port of Seattle Commissioner Ryan Calkins has officially assumed the role of commission president for 2026.
Commissioner Fred Felleman has been selected to serve as vice president, and Commissioner Sam Cho will serve as secretary.
The port announced that under Calkins’ leadership, it will continue its commitment to sustainability, innovation and economic opportunity for the region.
“2026 is a critical year for our region as we host major events like the World Cup and the celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, and the Port of Seattle is essential to our success,” said Calkins.
“2026 will also be an important year for building the sustainable economy. The Port of Seattle is transforming our transportation sector through pioneering investments in clean fuels and vital support for training and education that equips the next generation of workers. I’m honored to serve as Commission President this year,” added Calkins.
The port said in a press release that during the commission’s January 13 meeting, Calkins accepted the gavel from Commissioner Toshiko Hasegawa, who served as president in 2025.
The Port of Seattle said that the new year follows achievements like:
- Progress on decarbonization initiatives
- The expansion of shore power infrastructure, and
- The advancement of the Maritime Innovation Center at Fishermen’s Terminal.
This year, the port is preparing for the FIFA World Cup and advancing the master planning process for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
These efforts support the port’s long-term strategy to meet the region’s growth while reducing emissions, fostering habitat restoration and creating pathways to family-wage jobs in maritime and aviation industries.
The Commission and Executive Director Stephen Metruck will share more about the port’s 2026 priorities at the State of the Port event on March 12.
