The MSC World Europa cancelled its visit to the Italian port of Messina that was scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

According to an update shared with guests who were set to board the vessel at the port, the call could not go ahead due to adverse weather conditions.

“MSC World Europa’s scheduled call to Messina is cancelled due to bad weather. The ship will call Naples instead,” MSC said in a text message statement.

According to the update, guests were able to take advantage of a free coach transfer from Messina Port to Naples.

MSC added that it is offering 25 euros in onboard credit per person to reimburse expenses for lunch onshore.

Alternatively, guests were given the option to join the MSC World Europa at the port of Palermo on January 21, 2026. Those who chose to do so will receive a pro-rated refund for the night missed.

Sailing in the Western Mediterranean on a year-round basis, the LNG-powered vessel is currently offering a seven-night cruise to Italy, Spain, France and Malta.

The ship’s regular itinerary features visits to Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Civitavecchia, Messina, and Valletta.

As the first ship in the company’s World-class series, the World Europa was built at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France and entered service in late 2022.

In related news, MSC recently cancelled a ten-night cruise onboard the MSC Poesia due to “operational reasons.”

Currently offering winter cruises in Northern Europe, the 2008-built ship is set to undergo a major refurbishment in Malta ahead of marking MSC’s debut in Alaska.

As reported by Cruise Industry News, the sailing was scheduled to depart from the British port of Southampton to Valletta starting on February 13, 2025. The cruise included visits to destinations in Spain, Portugal and Italy.
