Roma Cruise Terminal announced the inauguration of the Donato Bramante Terminal, completed less than a year after construction began.
The new facility is the second built by the company and, according to Roma Cruise Terminal, represents a strategic step in consolidating Civitavecchia’s role as one of Europe’s leading cruise hubs.
Roma Cruise Terminal, a company owned by Costa, MSC and Royal Caribbean Cruises, has managed cruise operations in the port of Civitavecchia since 2007.
By 2025, it expects to handle 3.5 million passengers and make over 860 calls.
John Portelli, general manager of Roma Cruise Terminal, said:
“Since we started operating in the port of Civitavecchia in 2007, Roma Cruise Terminal has nearly 42 million passengers.”
“Terminal Donato Bramante is a tangible testament to the commitment of our shareholders (Costa Crociere, MSC Cruises/Marinvest and Royal Caribbean Cruises) to the growth of the port of Civitavecchia and the entire region,” added Portelli.
The company said in a press release that the new terminal, designed by Studio Vicini of Genoa and SISCO Ingegneria of Civitavecchia, will accommodate large cruise ships.
Its main features include:
- Check-in hall with 23 kiosks, expandable to 46
- 30 information screens for real-time updates on itineraries and services
- A cruise bar for passengers waiting to board their ship, and
- Spaces with reproductions of sites of Rome and Civitavecchia.
As part of the project, work on the quayside included installing LAN columns, new 300-ton bollards and widening the quay from nine to 22 meters to improve manoeuvring operations. The project involved 20 companies, 10 of which were local.
According to the press release, the cruise industry in the port generates approximately €200 million in economic benefits to Civitavecchia each year. Over 2,300 people are engaged in the cruise operations.
