The Scenic Eclipse became the first cruise ship to arrive at Ilha do Mel, Brazil, as part of an expedition cruise in South America.

After departing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Scenic Cruises vessel anchored off the island on Mar. 28, 2025.

According to local authorities, there were 237 guests and 217 crew members are onboard the vessel, which is offering an itinerary that will end in Málaga, Spain.

Guests were offered a series of shore excursions that include nature trails and city tours in nearby regions, such as Encantadas, Nova Brasília and Farol das Conchas.

Located near the port of Paranaguá, which hosted homeporting operations from MSC Cruises during the 2024-25 season, the island is part of a nature reserve.

“We continue to safely welcome cruise ships to our city and for the first time to Ilha do Mel,” said Paranaguá’s Secretary of Tourism Paula Torres.

“This operation will boost our local economy, with sales of boat tours, food and souvenirs from our region. In addition, tourists will appreciate the natural beauty of the area,” she added.

After visiting Ilha do Mel, the Scenic Eclipse is set to continue its way to Europe via Brazil’s Atlantic Coast, Cape Verde and the Canary Islands.

The 30-day expedition features visits to Rio de Janeiro, Búzios and Salvador before arriving in Praia, Santo Antão and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The ship is also set to visit Málaga and Gibraltar before arriving in Málaga on Apr. 22, 2025.

“This visit to Ilha do Mel represents more than a geographical achievement: it also shows appreciation of Brazil’s natural heritage within a global context of sophisticated and environmentally responsible experiences,” Scenic’s executive Flávio Policarpo said.

“The Scenic Eclipse is redefining the way the world travels — and Brazil is part of it,” he continued.
