Royal Caribbean International is cancelling the upcoming cruise of the Quantum of the Seas due to a tropical storm in Australia.

According to a statement sent to booked guests, the sailing, which was scheduled to depart from Brisbane on Friday, is no longer going ahead.

“We have been monitoring the progression of Tropical Cyclone Alfred as it slowly moves towards Brisbane,” the company said.

“Due to the development of the storm and the closure of the Port of Brisbane, the previous sailing of the Quantum of the Seas has been delayed in returning to port,” Royal Caribbean added.

As a result, the ship’s upcoming short voyage to the South Pacific had to be cancelled, the company continued.

Sailing from Brisbane, the Quantum of the Seas was scheduled to offer a three-night cruise with no ports of call.

“We’re truly sorry for the impact that this has on your vacation plans,” Royal Caribbean added, adding that guests will receive full refunds for the cruise fare and pre-purchased services and packages.

Passengers will also receive a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) to be used on a new booking with the company.

The amount of the credit varies based on the category booked on the cancelled cruise, ranging from $100 to $400 per stateroom.

After departing on its current cruise on Feb. 28, the Quantum of the Seas is now expected to return to Brisbane on Mar. 10, 2025.

The ship was originally scheduled to offer a seven-night cruise to the South Pacific that featured visits to Noumea and Mystery Island.

Due to the delayed return to Brisbane, the itinerary will now include a second visit to Noumea, as well as two additional sea days.

The Quantum of the Seas is expected to resume its regular cruise schedule on Mar. 10, 2025, kicking off a four-night cruise to Airlie Beach.

Sailing from Brisbane, the 2014-built ship is offering a series of two- to 14-night cruises to various destinations in Australia and the South Pacific.
