Tasmania celebrated a milestone, welcoming its 1.5 millionth passenger since its self-described modern cruise era began in 2013.

According to a press release, the milestone was marked by the arrival of Disney Wonder at the Port of Hobart on Wednesday.

TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald said this achievement reflects Tasmania’s growing appeal as a cruise destination and the industry’s vital contribution to the local economy.

“Cruise tourism brings substantial benefits to Tasmania, injecting millions of dollars into our economy each season. Passengers and crew visit local attractions, dine at restaurants, shop in retail stores, and join tours, directly supporting businesses across the state,” said Donald. “From Hobart and Burnie to Bell Bay, Coles Bay and Port Arthur, TasPorts is proud to play a key role in facilitating this demand, ensuring our ports continue to provide world-class services for cruise lines and their guests.”

Tasmania’s cruise sector continues to grow, with visitors exploring destinations like Salamanca Market, MONA, kunanyi/Mount Wellington, and Port Arthur. TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald credited the milestone to strong collaboration between TasPorts, the Tasmanian Government, tourism operators and industry partners.
