HX Expeditions announced a €7 million refurbishment for two of its ships, the MS Fram and MS Spitsbergen, according to a press release.

The MS Fram upgrades include:

• New Science Center: An interactive space for engagement.
• Cabin Renovations: 19 Arctic Superior cabins, 14 Expedition Suites and six Expedition Grand Suites will be fully refurbished, with the suites gaining a twin-bed configuration option.
• Dining Enhancements: Aune Restaurant and the galley will be upgraded.
• Crew and Guest Areas: All Polar Cabins will receive new bathrooms, and 36 crew cabins will undergo bathroom renovations, along with refreshed carpets and sofas.

The refurbishment will take place in April in Panama drydock and is expected to be completed by May 26, 2025.

“The same year Nansen was attempting to reach the North Pole aboard the original Fram, HX Expeditions was founded—ushering in a new era of exploration by bringing curious travelers to the Arctic for the first time,” said Gebhard Rainer, CEO of HX Expeditions. That inaugural voyage in 1896 set the stage for more than a century of pioneering expedition travel.”

MS Spitsbergen Upgrades:

• New Science Center: Enhancing expedition offerings.
• Cabin and Public Space Updates: All Polar Cabins will get new bathrooms while the Explorer Bar will be redesigned.
• New Brygge Bistro: A new bistro offering snacks throughout the day.
• Accessibility and Crew Enhancements: Upgraded ADA bathrooms, multilingual interpreter setups and expanded crew areas and dining facilities.

The refurbishment will take place in Spain’s Astilleros de Santander S.A.U. drydock in February and March, with the ship returning to service on April 2, 2025.
