Rio de Janeiro Hosts Five Ships at the Same Time

Rio de Janeiro

The Port of Rio de Janeiro welcomed five cruise ships simultaneously at its Pier Mauá Cruise Terminal on January 25, 2025.

In one of the busiest days of the 2024-25 season, the facility hosted Regent’s Seven Seas Mariner and Oceania’s Marina, as well as the Costa Pacifica, the MSC Seaview and the MSC Orchestra.

According to Pier Mauá, the ships brought over 15,000 visitors to Rio de Janeiro, including guests and crew members.

Serving the Brazilian market, the Costa Pacifica visited Pier Mauá to embark guests for a seven-night itinerary that also included calls to Ilhabela, Porto Belo, Balneário Camboriú, Angra dos Reis and Santos – where guests were able to start the cruise.

After opening the local season in November, the MSC Seaview docked at the port as part of a seven-night cruise that sailed from Santos to Salvador, Ilhéus and Rio de Janeiro.

The MSC Orchestra returned to the port to kick off an eight-night cruise to Argentina and Uruguay.

Sailing from Rio de Janeiro during the 2024-25 season, the 2007-built vessel is scheduled to visit Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Punta del Este before returning to Pier Mauá.

The Marina and the Seven Seas Mariner arrived at Rio as part of international itineraries that featured longer stays in Rio.

Offering a world cruise that started in Miami earlier this year, the Regent vessel docked at Pier Mauá for a two-day visit.

Oceania’s Marina spent three days docked in Rio, sailing to Buenos Aires on Jan. 26 as part of a 21-day cruise that also sails to destinations in Argentina, Uruguay and the Falklands.

“We are seeing a growing interest in alternative shore excursions, which has led various vessels to stay docked for longer periods,” said Marcello Chagas, Pier Mauá’s operations manager.

In a first for the port, two ships are scheduled to stay docked for four nights, the Silver Ray and the Crystal Serenity. Both calls will take place in early March.
