Explora I Marks Inaugural Visit to Anguilla

Explora I in Antigua

Explora Journey’s Explora I made its inaugural visit to Anguilla on Friday, December 27, 2024.

The ship’s maiden visit was marked by a ceremony attended by key officials, including the Minister of Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities, Housing and Tourism, Haydn Hughes; Parliamentary Secretary Merrick Richardson; Chairperson of the Anguilla Tourist Board Melisha Maccow-Niles; and Deputy Director of Tourism Chantelle Richardson. Bennie’s Travel and Tours, the official agent for the Explora I, helped coordinate the visit and ceremony.

Passengers had the chance to explore the island’s beaches, restaurants, historic sites and landmarks.

Hughes highlighted the importance of luxury cruise tourism within Anguilla’s broader tourism strategy stating: “Anguilla has always been a destination that appeals to discerning travelers, and the arrival of Explora I is a testament to our commitment to diversifying our tourism product while preserving the exclusivity and authenticity of our island. This growing market not only enhances visitor arrivals but also creates opportunities for local businesses to thrive.”

Melisha Maccow-Niles added: “Luxury cruise visitors bring an immediate economic boost, benefiting restaurants, beach bars, and local tour operators. These arrivals also open doors for future extended visits as passengers may choose to visit our island as stayover guests for their next vacation.”

Chantelle Richardson emphasized the significance of this call for Anguilla’s tourism, adding: “Day trippers from the Explora I are experiencing the unique essence of Anguilla, from our pristine beaches to our culinary offerings. These experiences not only generate revenue but also reinforce Anguilla’s position as a premium destination in the global market.”

“This is an exciting moment for Anguilla as we continue to position ourselves in the luxury tourism sector,” added the Parliamentary Secretary Merrick Richardson. The arrival of Explora I aligns with our vision for sustainable tourism growth and high-value visitor experiences.”
