Cruise Orderbook: $56.9 Billion of New Ships Through 2036

According to Cruise Industry News’  latest cruise ship orderbook, 67 new ships and 170,422 berths are set to be introduced through 2036, totaling an orderbook value of just under $57 billion.

Thirty-five of those orders were placed in 2024, showcasing a strong growth trajectory for cruise.

Of the 67 orders placed through 2036, Fincantieri will build 37, Meyer Werft nine and Chantiers eight.

Just recently, Crystal ordered a third newbuild for 2032 through Fincantieri, while Viking will see eight new ships delivered between 2025 and 2030, following the delivery of the Viking Vela in early December.

Upcoming highlights for 2025 include 15 newbuilds, 38,629 berths and a total orderbook value of $11.8 billion.

Ranging from the 180-passenger Four Seasons I to the 6,000-passenger Disney Adventure, the 2025 newbuild cost average is currently sitting at $785 million. According to CIN data, the average price per berth is $304,849.

TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff Relax, Norwegian’s Aqua and MSC Cruises’ World America are expected to be delivered in the first quarter, while Disney’s newbuilds and Windstar’s Star Seeker are expected later in 2025.

As for 2026, data shows 16 new ships launching for the year, including Norwegian’s Luna in the first quarter, Viking Ocean’s Mira in the second, Antartica21’s expedition vessel Magellan Discoverer in the fourth and MSC’s World Aisa with a launch date yet to be announced.

Ranging from the Emerald’s Kaia, which has a 100-passenger capacity, to the Royal Caribbean’s unnamed vessel with a capacity of 5,610, the ordered ships average 88 285 tons and $623 million per ship.

The year expects a total of 28,337 berths, averaging $307,795.

Looking ahead through 2033, highlights include:

  • Three Carnival vessels each accommodating 6,200, which are expected in 2029, 2031 and 2033, respectively.
  • Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas, accommodating 5,610, which is expected in 2025, and
  • Three MSC Cruises vessels, each accommodating 5,400, expected in 2025, 2026 and 2027, respectively.
