Cabo Rojo Attracting More Ships

Cabo Rojo Attracting More Ships

Holland America Line’s Rotterdam became only the sixth cruise ship to call at Cabo Rojo on Thursday.

Located on the southwestern corner of the Dominican Republic, the new port opened in September 2024 and saw a total of five calls last year.

The port area itself features pools and a beach area with cabanas, a lazy river, an all-terrain ATV track, a ferris wheel, a merry-go-round, bars, restaurants and shops.

Adjacent, within a five-minute walk, is Baby Beach.

Other excursions include off-road ATV drives, glass-bottom sailboat tours, a natural reserve, and a tour to the nearest town, Pedernales, half an hour away by car.

The Cabo Rojo area is being developed as a resort destination, with hotel and resort construction underway.

Inaugurated in October 2024, Dominican authorities said the port is able to receive two large ships at a time and up to 15,000 visitors.

Twenty-five more calls are scheduled this year by Holland America Line, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Lines, MSC, and Costa.
