Eastern Cruise launched service in South Korea in December, having successfully completing its maiden voyage onboard the Eastern Venus.
According to a press release, the inaugural sailing departed from Busan on Dec. 24 and included visits to Sasebo and Kagoshima in Japan.
Sailing over the Christmas holiday, the cruise included themed activities such as carol performances, special shows and movie screenings.
Other themed events included DJ parties, encounters with Santa Claus, photo opportunities and a gala dinner.
The Eastern Venus was also prepared for the sailing with a festive atmosphere that included ornaments and a large Christmas tree.
According to Eastern Cruise, the inaugural voyage also featured a visit to Huis Ten Bosch in Sasebo, where passengers experienced the “European Holy Christmas” event, renowned for its illuminations.
The successful inaugural cruise marks the beginning of regular cruise operations from Busan, the company added.
After being acquired by Eastern in 2023, the Eastern Venus is now set to offer itineraries to major tourist destinations in Japan’s Kyushu region, including Sasebo, Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Fukuoka and Kumamoto.
The company also plans to offer additional itineraries tailored to the needs of domestic and international passengers starting in April.
According to the startup, which is a subsidiary of DuWon Shipping, the operation will open a new chapter for traditional cruising in South Korea.
“Designed as a traditional cruise ship rather than a ferry-type vessel, the Eastern Venus offers a complete cruise experience with accommodation and leisure facilities,” the company said.
The 700-guest ship features various cabin types, in addition to restaurants, entertainment venues and other facilities such as a swimming pool, jacuzzi, fitness center and duty-free shop.
Originally built for Venus Cruise, the 26,518-ton ship entered service for the Japan-based company in 1998.
After 25 years serving the Japanese national cruise market, the vessel was sold to DuWon Shipping in late 2023.
