Aranui Marks 40 Years and Looks to Future

Aranui

Aranui Cruises celebrated four decades of adventure as of 2024. As such, guests can expect upcoming special programming and opportunities from the company, Eric Wong, Aranui Cruises’ executive vice president, North America, told Cruise Industry News in an interview.

The company offers the Aranui 5, a ship that doubles as a cargo freighter, year-round in French Polynesia. Port calls are two-pronged, offering a guest experience shoreside but also delivering goods to remote destinations. There is capacity for 230-guests.

“We are deeply proud to reflect on the past 40 years of serving the communities of the Marquesas Islands,” said Wong. “We look to the future for the opportunity to share a truly unique perspective with travelers who want more culture-rich, authentic vacation experiences.”

Authentic Experiences

From its inception to the present day, Aranui’s concept has been a traditional and authentic Polynesian offering presented by Polynesians for the benefit of Polynesia.

According to Wong, it’s in that spirit that nearly all the staff and crew are Polynesian, hailing from islands across the five archipelagos.

“It is their insider’s perspective and how openly they introduce their home to the outside world that creates an atmosphere unlike any other cruise line sailing these waters,” Wong emphasized.

Aranui’s cruises are unique due to the company’s central pursuit of soft adventure, Wong emphasized.

The vessel combines the comforts and modern conveniences of a cruise ship and provides essential cargo service to remote areas. Wong said the ship also acts as a lifeline for tiny communities far removed from civilization.

Exceptional Sailings

Wong said: “Our guests are not traditional cruisers; they seek exceptional travel adventures. Our audience is anyone ready for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure off the beaten path.”

“Discover the Marquesas” is Aranui’s main itinerary, sailing over 11 nights. This itinerary travels to the Marquesas islands, and passengers experience valleys, lagoons, and sky-high peaks. Staffed with a Polynesian crew, guests are surrounded by culture on land and out at sea.

“While the classic Marquesas cruise will remain the primary offering, Austral and Tuamotu Islands sailings will be offered for an exploration of untouched lands, met with white sand beaches and blue lagoons,” said Wong.

Meaningful Impact

The cruise line’s service extends beyond its cruises, as the company works with The Marquesas to ensure the distribution of goods and the transportation of people.

Wong said: “Through our international sales network, the Marquesas are well-promoted across the globe. We also provide financial assistance to young athletes and promising students to help with their travel and housing expenses during sporting or school competitions.”

In addition to this, Aranui hosted Olympic surfers aboard the Aranui 5 in Tahiti in 2024, garnering recognition for Polynesia and necessary support for athletes.

People-Focused Future

“We believe the future is built on these opportunities to showcase what the archipelagos are all about,” according to Wong. “The future of cruising in the Pacific region lies in the dedication to positive impact on the area and its people.”

Now heading into 2025, Aranui is celebrating the Marquesas’ designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
