Swan Hellenic Opens New Cruise Destination in Brazil

Calling in Itacare

Swan Hellenic’s SH Vega opened a new destination for cruise ships in Brazil earlier this month when it made visits to Itacaré.

Offering a series of expedition cruises in the country, the vessel visited the town, which is located in Brazil’s Bahia State, on Nov. 1 and Nov. 5, 2024.

According to Itacaré’s City Hall, over 100 guests visited the city during each call

Passengers were able to take part in a series of shore excursions provided by Swan Hellenic, the town said.

The tours were designed to highlight the natural beauty and the culture of Itacaré, visiting the city’s beach promenade, as well as its Historical Center, church and sacred museum.

Guests were also able to visit a series of beaches and waterfalls, including Praia da Concha and Cachoeira do Cleandro.

“It was a significant gain for the economy, but even more importantly, we were able to add value to the operation by involving local entities and companies,” said Itacaré’s Tourism Secretary Marcos Japu.

“This impact strengthens our destination and paves the way for future visits, offering tourists an experience that makes them want to return and explore even more,” he added.

In addition to local Itacaré government, the calls from the SH Vega were supported by the Brazilian Navy, local police forces and more.

According to the local administration, the 152-guest expedition ship is now scheduled to return to Itacaré during the 2025-26 season.

“The inclusion of our city in the itineraries for the upcoming season reinforces our status as a reference destination for cultural and nature tourism,” the Itacaré City Hall said.

Making its way to Antarctica for the 2024-25 season, the SH Vega is offering a series of expedition cruises along the Brazilian coast.

The itineraries sail to several unusual destinations in the country, including Morro de São Paulo, Ilha Anchieta, Paraty, Abrolhos and Trancoso.
