Holland America Line’s Westerdam sailed from Seattle on Sunday for a 53-night cruise to Japan and the Pacific.

Part of the company’s Legendary Voyages program, the “Majestic Japan” itinerary features visits to over 20 destinations before returning to Seattle on Oct. 24, 2024.

The cruise starts with visits to Victoria and Vancouver in Canada before visiting Sitka, Haines and Dutch Harbor in Alaska.

The Westerdam is then set to cross the Pacific ahead of a series of ports of call in Japan, such as Kushiro, Hakodate and Yokohama, where it is set to spend two days docked.

Other ports of call in the country include Shimizu, Kobe, Kochi, Hiroshima, Sakaiminato, Toyama and Kanazawa.

Before returning to North America via Hawaii, the Westerdam is also scheduled to visit Nagasaki, Ishigaki and Naha.

In addition to a second trans-Pacific crossing, the cruise features a visit to Hilo and a two-day visit to Honolulu.

The “Majestic Japan” cruise also features a special culinary experience onboard, which is highlighted by the presence of Holland America Line’s Fresh Fish Ambassador Chef Masaharu Morimoto.

According to the company, guests will be able to share experiences with the chef during a series of unique activities.

The sailing will also feature three Morimoto By Sea pop-up dinners at Pinnacle Grill, providing guests with intimate access to the chef during their meals.

Chef Morimoto will embark on the Westerdam on Sept. 24 at Osaka and sail to Kochi, Sakaiminato, and Toyama before debarking at Kanazawa on Sept. 30. The ship will visit the chef’s hometown of Hiroshima on Sept. 26.

As part of Holland America’s Legendary Voyages program, the cruise offers guests opportunities to enrich the experience both ashore and onboard.
