Carnival Luminosa Flies New Queensland-Inspired ‘Flag Of Fun’

Flag of Fun

Carnival Cruise Line unveiled its new “Flag of FUN” inspired by Queensland onboard the Carnival Luminosa on October 22, 2023.

The flag was raised for the first time onboard the ship, where it will remain during the Luminosa’s Australian season. Captain Adriano Binacchi and Carnival Cruise Line VP Kara Glamore hosted the flag-raising ceremony at Brisbane International Cruise Terminal. Carnival Luminosa officers Maria Avendano and Pietro Battilana led the inaugural flag-raising at the ship’s bow to close the ceremony.

The Flag of FUN features photos submitted by Queenslanders while the design of the flag also represents the state of Queensland. The maroon triangle represents the state’s official color; the yellow circle represents the sun for which the state gets its nickname (the Sunshine State).

Attendants included local travel agents, media and representatives from Carnival Cruise Line partners including the Queensland Children’s Hospital Foundation, Brisbane Bullets and Tangalooma Island Resort, as well as Brisbane Airport, Tourism and Events Queensland and Brisbane Economic Development Agency. A special three-course Carnival lunch was served in the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, including the famous lobster surf and turf and the chocolate melting cake. The event also included surprise entertainment from Carnival’s dancing waiters and singing Maître D’.

“The Flag of FUN acts as a physical representation of Carnival Cruise Line’s commitment to Queensland,” said Glamore. “Throughout Luminosa’s season, cruisers can look to the flag that they helped us create and see themselves reflected in it. Queenslanders show us a lot of love and we wanted to return the favor by sailing with a beautiful symbol of the state and its people onboard our Brisbane-based ship.”
