Miray Cruises to Provide Earthquake Relief in Turkey

Gemini

Miray Cruises is joining relief efforts in Turkey after a major earthquake struck the southern and central regions of the country earlier this month.

According to the cruise line, the Gemini will remain docked in the Port of Iskenderun through mid-March providing relief housing for 1,056 people.

With mostly families onboard, Miray is set to provide all meals as well as 24-hour medical services for those on the ship.

The company will also organize special activities and programs for the many children who are onboard, a spokesperson told Cruise Industry News.

Additional vessels may also be provided if necessary, the cruise line said.

Acquired by Miray in 2020, the Gemini is set to offer a summer program in the Eastern Mediterranean starting on March 19.

Sailing from Turkey and Greece, the 1992-buit cruise ship will sail three- and four-day cruises to the Greek Islands that features popular ports of call such as Rhodes, Santorini, Mykonos and more.

Extending through late September, the program includes departures from the ports of Cesme and Piraeus.

Originally operated by Crown Cruise Line, the Gemini was built in Spain by the Union Navale de Levante shipyard.

Considered the largest ship ever constructed at the European country at the time, the 20,000-ton vessel has capacity for 1,074 passengers at double occupancy.

Before joining Miray, the Gemini also spent time cruising for Cunard, Star Cruises, Quail Cruises, Happy Cruises, Vision Cruceros, Celestyal Cruises and more.

The ship also served as a floating during two different Olympic Games – the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
