Jackie Q. Carter Sworn as Milwaukee’s Port Director

Jackie Q. Carter has been sworn in as Milwaukee’s Municipal Port Director, according to a press release.

Carter took her oath of office on Thursday during a swearing-in ceremony at City Hall, which was presided over by Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson. She becomes the first woman and person of color in the position.

In her new position, Carter will direct commercial and recreational operations at Port Milwaukee, oversee a staff of twenty people, and administer Foreign Trade Zone No. 41. She has been working in the local non-profit and public sector for more than 20 years and was most recently the Finance & Administration Officer for Port Milwaukee, where she provided oversight of all Port business operations, including its financial, human resource, and administrative functions.

Her experience in the field and strategic planning efforts are expected to play a vital role in shaping the future of the department.

Carter’s appointment highlights the City of Milwaukee’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, as it strives to appoint individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences to key leadership positions.
