Lisbon Cruise Port: Cruise Ship Numbers Hit Record in 2022

Lisbon Cruise Port

The port of Lisbon has reported numbers for cruise ship calls and cruise passengers from/to the Portuguese capital in 2022, according to a statement.

The port surpassed a hundred turnaround calls for the first time, welcoming 103 cruise calls and 88,292 passengers.

“Compared to 2019, these numbers represent growths of 43 percent in port calls and 21 percent in the number of passengers, demonstrating the interest by cruise operators to embark and disembark their ships,” said the port in a statement.

Overall, the port of Lisbon recorded 327 cruise ship calls in 2022 which is a significant jump compared to the 310 cruise ship calls in 2019.

“Considering that in 2022, 45,276 passengers embarked at the port of Lisbon, we are talking about approximately 17 million of direct economic impact generated just by the people who started their journey in the Portuguese capital,” said Carlos Correia, the chairman of the Lisbon port authority.

Additionally, three operators made their debut last year and 22 cruise ships called at the Port of Lisbon for the first time, two of which – the ‘Silver Dawn’ and the ‘Evrima’ – were christened in the city.

The Lisbon cruise terminal was recognized as the best in Europe by the World Cruise Awards, in 2022.
