Incheon Sees Cruise Traffic Fall Off

The Port of Incheon’s cruise traffic has tumbled this year, from 62 calls in 2016 to 21 visits in 2017. Cruise lines have cancelled calls due to “uncontrollable diplomatic issues,” according to a spokesperson.

The spokesperson said if the political climate continued as it currently is, 2018 would see a further decrease in calls.

Among the handful of bright points this year was the Majestic Princess, which made its maiden call in Incheon on July 7.

Construction is scheduled to begin on a massive new cruise terminal next October, which will open in early 2019 and have capacity to host two large ships at once.
